I'm not from the EU — can I rent a car?

IDP requirements and what non-EU drivers need to know.

Yes. Drivers from outside the EU/EEA are welcome. You will need:

  • Your original national driving licence (in Latin script, or with an official certified translation)
  • An International Driving Permit (IDP) — obtain this in your home country before travelling
  • Your passport
  • A valid credit or debit card for the security deposit

The IDP is only valid when presented together with your original national licence. IDP alone is not sufficient.

Where to get an IDP

IDPs are issued by motoring organisations in your home country (e.g., AAA in the USA, AA/RAC in the UK, ADAC in Germany). Processing can take several days, so apply before you travel.
